The Lady in Gold: A Jeweled Portrait Speaks
Join Jan Krulick-Belin, museum and art consultant and an art and jewelry historian for her presentation on The Lady in Gold: A Jeweled Portrait Speaks.
Thanks to the 2015 movie Woman in Gold, a portrait of Viennese socialite Adele Bloch-Bauer painted by Gustav Klimt in 1907, has become famous. This golden painting of a woman wearing exquisite jewelry is itself, like one large jewel. The stories it has to tell are plentiful: stories about its time period, politics, Nazi looting, legal battles; affairs; artistic innovation, fashion, and jewelry. We’ll take a look at just a few.
