Shelter Without Walls
Founded in 1998, Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) Shelter Without Walls program is a non-residential service that offers support to survivors of domestic violence who wish to live independently and need assistance to do safely. Our team works closely with participants to ensure their safety and ability to provide for themselves and their children while maintaining independence and self-respect. Our goal is for survivors and children to get safe and stay safe. Services are provided to individuals of all ages, faiths, gender orientations and backgrounds.
Services Provided Through the Shelter Without Walls Program
Step-by-Step Safety Planning
Our team members work with participants to create an individualized plan to help them be safe. Safety plans are individualized to where a participant is in their journey.

- Shelter referrals if needed
- Referrals to community resources and services
- Crime victim information and referrals
- Employment and job search readiness
Lay Legal Advocacy
- Information and education about the legal system, including criminal, civil, family and immigration
- Support and assistance in completing Orders of Protection and Injunctions Against Harassment
- Preparation for court, including what to expect, what protections does the court offer, navigating the courthouse and more
- Court accompaniment
- Linkage to resources for legal document preparation, low cost legal advice or representation and more

- Domestic violence education
- Support groups
- Individual and group counseling
- Immigration assistance addressing the intersection of intimate partner violence and immigration
Case Management
Our team will work closely with participants to ensure their safety and ability to provide for themselves and their children while maintaining their independence and self-respect. Comprehensive case management focuses on whatever each individual needs in order to get safe and stay safe.
